The North Coast keeps all beaches open; nine sites remain unsuitable in the state
The Government of Rio Grande do Sul, through the National Foundation for Environmental Protection (Fepam), published this Friday (19) the second bulletin of the bathing program for the 2025/2026 season. The survey shows that 87 points are suitable for swimming on the beaches and resorts of Rio Grande do Sul, two more than in the previous bulletin.
According to official data, all monitored points on the north coast remain open to swimmers. Within the state, the municipalities of Santa Maria and Santiago left the list of unsuitable places this week. However, nine points remain restricted for swimming, distributed in different regions.
Among the places considered unsuitable for swimming are the public baths in the municipalities of Barra do Ribeiro, Nova Palma, Pelotas, Piratini and Tapes, in the areas of Lake Guaíba, the Soturno and Piratini rivers, as well as the urban points of Pelotas and Balneário Rebelo, in Tapes.
The Bathing Program, carried out by Fepam, benefits from the support of Corsan and the Autonomous Sanitation Service of Pelotas (Sanep). Currently, surveillance covers 96 points on the beaches and seaside resorts of 45 municipalities in RS. This season, areas such as Lagoa Rondinha, in Balneário Pinhal, Parque Náutico, in Capão da Canoa, and Balneário Klérfim Cardoso, in Piratini, have been integrated into the system.
The results are published every week, always on Friday, through the official website and social networks of Fepam, in addition to the information panels installed in the monitored places and a web application of the program. The publication of bulletins is expected to continue until February 27.
Established in 1979, the swim program is conducted annually and is part of the state government’s total summer operation. Fepam reminds that bathers must give priority to areas classified as suitable, avoid any contact with water after periods of intense rain, not enter places where there is an excessive presence of algae and take particular care with children, the elderly and people with reduced immunity.
