The 49th Palamós Christmas Race added its second consecutive day without racing this Saturday due to the total absence of wind in the bay. Like the first day, the crews were unable to compete and, at 2:30 p.m., the … The organization officially closed the day, having verified that the wind intensity barely exceeded the knot throughout the day.
The day began with widespread fog across the entire coastal strip and from one end of Palamós Bay to the other, a scenario not very favorable for navigation. Even though the temperature was relatively mild, around 12 degrees, the low clouds did not dissipate and the sun did not warm enough to generate a minimal thermal breeze.
The race committees set sail at the scheduled time, around 10 a.m., and stayed for more than four hours waiting for a possible improvement. However, given the persistence of the same conditions, at 2:40 p.m. it was decided to permanently cancel the day.
Now all attention is focused on the last two days of competition, for which the weather forecast is more optimistic. Although rain is expected in the early morning and Sunday morning, the models predict the entry of a southwest wind of between 15 and 20 knots.
The regatta meteorologist, Enric Agud, stressed that “the change will be radical and, from mid-morning on Sunday, the wind will blow around 15 knots, with a tendency to increase”.
The scheduled start time for Sunday’s tests is at 11:00 a.m., and if conditions permit, the organization will attempt to compete in three events in each of the classes.
