With support from ICL, the Writer for the Future project involved 17 SP and RS schools in creating books that transform the UN Sustainable Development Goals into stories of impact.
Throughout 2025, 2,743 students from 17 public schools in the municipalities of Suzano (SP), Conchal (SP), Jacareí (SP), Cajati (SP) and Cruz Alta (RS) participated in a new edition of the Writer for the Future (EPF) project, carried out with the support of the ICL. The educational innovation initiative uses literature as an educational tool to stimulate reading, writing and critical thinking, thereby fostering a creative journey inspired by the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A total of 126 teachers and 119 classes participated in the creation of books exploring topics such as healthy eating, reducing water consumption, clean energy, technological innovation and combating climate change, represented by SDGs 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 12 and 13.
According to Márcio Lopes, Senior Director of Environment and Sustainability at ICL, the initiative reinforces the company’s goal of combining science, education and social responsibility to generate a positive impact on communities. “At ICL, we believe that innovation, focus and leadership are essential to transform challenges into opportunities. Our commitment is to create solutions that promote food security, responsible production and climate change mitigation, aligning our actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In partnership with the Writer for the Future project, we are strengthening our goal to have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate, by offering thousands of students the opportunity to become protagonists of their stories,” he emphasizes.
For each SDG, a creative challenge was set for students: stories about magical foods that support health (SDG 2), guides on healthy habits and reducing water consumption (SDG 3 and 6), adventures with heroes who fight against fossil fuels (SDG 7), a future full of technology and robotics (SDG 9), practical tips for conscious consumption (SDG 12) and stories in which the Earth becomes a central character in the fight against climate change (SDG 13).
Educational impact
The end of the project in each municipality was marked by autograph sessions, which brought together students, families and educators to celebrate the leading role of young authors and the impact of reading and writing as agents of transformation.
“The choice of our school for this project left us flattered and very happy to participate in such an important initiative, which awakened in children the pleasure of reading and writing, offering a unique experience of learning and creativity. The final result exceeded expectations and will remain engraved in the memory of all of us,” comments Priscila Esmeria, educational coordinator of CEI André Franco Montoro, in Jacareí (SP).
In addition to encouraging reading and writing, the project reinforces the role of education as an essential tool for building a fairer and more sustainable society and contributes to the development of socio-emotional skills and the appreciation of teachers.
“Together, ICL and EPF are building the story of a sustainable future: combining science, education and social responsibility to generate real impact in communities. Each page written by students is a step towards a fairer, more innovative and inclusive world,” concludes Lopes.
