As the live-action Tangled film continues to develop, Disney is accelerating one of the project’s most delicate decisions: Who will be the new Rapunzel?
Although the names McKenna Grace and Mason Thames dominated speculation as a possible leading duo for months, as Agencia Noticias Argentinas reported, new versions have emerged in recent weeks that indicate a change in direction in the casting with a broader list.
As The Hollywood Reporter reported, the studio conducted film and chemistry tests in London, a fundamental example of assessing not only individual talent but also the compatibility between protagonists.
Actresses cast for Rapunzel include notable names like Freya Skye (Zombies 4), Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus), Teagan Croft (Titans) and Olivia-Mai Barrett (Invasion).
They are joined by Lola Tung, the central character of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” who was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts but was considered in the preliminary stages of the trial.
Other reports, like those from NexusPoint News, expanded the scope even further, mentioning Isabel May, Emma Myers, Sadie Sink and McKenna Grace herself as possible finalists at some point in the casting.__IP__
The continued interest in McKenna Grace is due to her chemistry with Mason Thames, which was put to the test during the promotion of Despite You, winning over both fans and sections of the studio.
Both publicly praised each other and admitted that they see themselves as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, sparking a social media campaign that positioned them as the public’s favorite duo, although their future in Tangled looks more uncertain today.
