Kylian Mbappé equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 59 goals in one year with Real Madrid with a late penalty in the 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the Spanish Championship this Saturday (20), the French striker celebrating his 27th birthday in style.
Mbappé missed several chances before getting his chance from the penalty spot four minutes from time, and he didn’t waste the opportunity, scoring his 59th goal in as many games in all competitions for the team in 2025, equaling Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally in 2013.
Jude Bellingham put Real Madrid ahead with a header seven minutes before halftime, and Sevilla were 22 minutes from time after Marcao received a second yellow card. However, the hosts had goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to thank for maintaining their lead.
Real Madrid sit second in the La Liga table with 42 points, one point behind Barcelona, who face third-placed Villarreal away on Sunday. Sevilla is in ninth place, with 20 points.
