With the end of the promised year, Paula Pua He takes stock and tells ABC about the personal and professional moment he finds himself in. 33-year-old actor and screenwriterwhich is part of the programs … like “Zapando” or, more recently, she collaborated on “More than one” by Ondaceroin addition to doing monologues and managing their social media (with great success).
We could say that it is quite multifacetedas he also worked as a journalist. But without a doubt, and while he has no problem showing his most vulnerable side, what he loves most is making people laugh and he does it almost naturally.
Who is Paula Pua?
Paula Púa is a person who does what she can, okay? He is an independent person who fortunately earns his living doing what he loves, that is to say comedy and making people laugh, etc. So he is a person who is doing well, he is happy.
Film buffs will know you from the Feroz Awards you have presented. Was this challenge easier with your background as a journalist?
It was quite similar to stand-up, that is, monologue, to what journalism is. But ultimately what I had done in journalism was be in a newsroom copying and pasting teletypes, honestly, and that’s ultimately what we did. So more of a monologue but in a big way, the genius that I said, even if I’m wrong, at least the photos…
Did anyone congratulate you in the audience, which was full of famous actors?
Yeah, I think it was Icíar Ituño, that sounds very familiar to me that he came up to me at the afterparty and told me it was cool. It looks like it’s not her, but I say it was her. A lot of people told me later that it was cool, but since people were already very high up, they were nicer.
“Being an actor is a complicated and quite tiring job. Especially for anxious people. »
What do you like doing the most, TV, monologues…?
I’m a big fan of live shows and on TV too, if it’s recorded it loses a bit of the ‘punch’. In stand-up it’s close to the skin, you know if it’s going well or badly and you have to adapt, it gives an adrenaline rush that I really like. Now it’s getting a little worn. Especially for people who are anxious, who don’t feel safe, etc., it’s a complicated but very beautiful job.
It exhausts you physically, mentally, both. Especially because you expose yourself a lot, you tell your things, something very personal… so if you don’t like it, it’s very easy to take it personally and say “I don’t like it”. It’s important to do mental work and that’s why I think almost every actor I know is in or has been in therapy. And physically the voice, of course, you have to project yourself like the artists, with the diaphragm, but I’m an idiot.
This year there have been several disappointments with the cancellation of programs like “Caiga Quique Caiga”, how do you deal with this disappointment?
You know, obviously it makes you very sad, but I think you process it. There comes a point where I’ve already been on several shows that have been canceled and I’m like, “Is that me?” (series). No, there’s a lot of influencing factors, you try to stick to, “Oh, I think the work we did was very good.” Obviously you had to take a closer look, because if the audiences didn’t work it was because it wasn’t done as well as it should have, but in the end there are programs that are good and just to compete with other formats, the channel prefers to bet on others, or because of the schedule they end up ending.
Is there someone you met at work who you now consider a friend?
Yes, a lot of people, screenwriters, collaborators… in the end these are the people you are with the most on a daily basis. When you’re a collaborator, you leave for a day or two but you spread out and it’s more difficult to get together. When I was a screenwriter, you were there in the trenches getting the script out, you become blood friends. I actually met my boy as a screenwriter. We were very supportive, we were scriptwriters for a daily current affairs show.
It was… I learned a lot but it was Vietnam. Because maybe you have made the scenario, we are going to enter the meeting and Pedro Sánchez farts and you have to change the whole sequence and therefore the whole scenario. Then you cried, an orphidal and you continue.
He is getting married in 2026
Speaking of her partner, her fiancé…
Yes, I promise. An anger that just the year I got engaged, I only got engaged once and boy twice, Georgina and Taylor Swift got engaged. Can you leave me something? Would this be my year someday? Are you going to copy the date for me too?
Be careful, as there is speculation that Taylor Swift’s faith may take place on June 13.
Oh really? (Laughing and swearing) I can’t believe it. I’m so angry, I swear it’s June 13th, I promise. It was either May 23 or June 13…
In Valencia?
In Madrid. I can’t believe it (laughs).
How did the request go, was there a request as such?
We were already half-talking about it, it’s something we’re both passionate about, so I said, “Oh, well, in 2026, I have nothing.” No, I remember when we were dating for two years, we were at one of those private Japanese karaoke bars, with a group of ten people. And I played “El aillo pa donde”, I got up on a sofa and I said “Iñaki, marry me”. I don’t know what I said, I was a bit lame, no one paid attention to me because they thought I was funny. I took one of the oranges that were in the cocktails and used it as a ring.
Detail of Paula’s engagement ring
There we thought we weren’t going to get married anymore, because we didn’t even live together, but we wanted to be together. So talking about that, I said, “Okay, I want to get married, I’m a strong, independent woman who asked you first, but I can’t wait to get a ring. Honestly, sorry I grew up with Disney. And it’s a really nice ring, he picked it out because he has really good taste.
How are you going to spend Christmas?
Juggling to balance appointments without a project (I’m independent) with those of my boyfriend (he’s not independent but he does a lot of things).
Which celebrity would you invite to your Christmas dinner?
To Leticia Sabater, without a doubt. When the family starts arguing about politics, bang! Leti climbs on the table to sing a Christmas carol.
What assessment do you make of the year on a personal level?
On a personal level, it was an extreme year. Someone very close to me passed away recently and it was a really big blow, especially if you’re walking the mental health tightrope. The positive side is that I have a very good network of people around me who support me in everything. Even about bringing Leticia Sabater to Christmas dinner.
