Conviction
The former Argentine president was found guilty of rigging public works tenders in the province of Santa Cruz, her family’s political stronghold. Due to her age, 72, the court sentenced her to home confinement.
Sentenced to six years in prison for corruption, Cristina exhausted her legal appeals after Argentina’s Supreme Court upheld the sentence. However, she insists that she is a victim of persecution by the justice system.
The Argentine court also introduced the use of electronic ankle bracelets to guarantee “effective control of the execution of the sentence”.
